Regular Attack

A Regular Attack is a direct assault with your army. Your attack strength is compared to the enemy's defense.

First you choose how many of each unit to send: Troopers, Jets, Tanks, and Bombers. Jets can only fight if you have carriers to carry them. Units you keep at home do not fight and cannot be lost.

Only the units you sent add to your attack, and only they can be lost. Bombers are the exception: they add no strength to an attack on your own planet, so sending them loses you bombers for nothing.

The two armies grind each other down until one has lost as much as it is willing to lose, and that share is a setting on this board rather than a fixed figure. What it costs the winner depends on how one-sided the fight was: an attacker who badly outmatches the defender walks away having lost very little, and an evenly matched one pays nearly the full share.

If you win, you capture a share of the enemy's regions. You do not take their gold. A small empire can lose all of its regions in one attack. A large empire loses only part, so you must attack it again and again to take it down.

How big that share is depends on this board's settings and on how many regions the enemy holds, not on how developed it is.

Strategy hint: a large empire with low net worth is a soft target. It has many regions but little strength to defend them. You win the battle easily and take many regions. A small, dense empire gives you fewer regions for the same effort.
